Encyclopedia Project Reflection
1. During the Encyclopedia Project, I learned about the history of probability and statistics. I learned about how a real world experience, gambling, lead to the creation of a theory used in numerous amounts of careers and taught widely throughout math classes of all grades. I also learned that the creation of the theory of probability has built upon itself becoming more and more complex creating things such as Pascal's triangle.
2. I have learned that as a student I have a good sense of balancing work and prioritizing effectively. During this project I managed to complete all of chapter 13 and my project thoroughly and on time. Although it was stressful, I was able to get all my work done. Another thing that I learned was that I can work on getting better at finding reliable sources to base my information off of. The hardest part about this project was finding sources that were reliable and gave me the information that I needed.
3. In order to prepare for the exhibition I think I need to know exactly what I should be talking about. Right now I'm a little confused about what I will actually show. Once I know what to talk about then I will practice.
4. If I were to re-do exhibition, I think I would be honest to people when they asked me what was the most important thing I learned from. Last night, I lied and said it was good to know the history of probability to have a better understanding of the math. Quite frankly, I didn't learn anything relevant to my future, and wasted my time researching information that I will never need to know again, and thought this was the most meaningless project I have ever done. So if I could change anything about exhibition, I would be honest.
5. Moving into future math classes, I think my weakness that I could improve is I don't spent time studying and committing things to memory. I usually complete the homework assignment, and everything I learned falls right out of my mind. If I spent more time re-visiting ideas before a test, I would have much better scores and will remember things better. My strength going into my future math classes however, is completing assignments on time. This has accounted for a large amount of my grade and will be able to apply my motivation to assignments in other classes.
