Lyrical Painting: Sedona by Handmouth
- I expressed my song through visual imagery by replicating the location of the song, which is Sedona. I painted a desert scene with dark colors and a red sky to give the alternative feel that the song gives. I specifically used bright pink to reflect the chorus which goes as follows, “I remember when your neon used to burn so bright and pink. A Saturday night kinda pink.”
- My process of layering the paint started with a basic outline of the mountains, separating the land and the sky. From there I added different shades of red, orange, and black for the sky. I added white washed to the sky so that the land would be bolder. To paint the desert, it was a slow process of letting the paint dry in order for it to stand out from the black. At first, I was afraid to use light shades on the land because I wanted it to be especially darker than the sky, but eventually I realized that I needed to use light shades and bright colors to show the layers of the rock and ground.
- The part of my painting that evolved the most was the land. It began as a mere black silhouette and through layering of different colors and shades of paint, it started to have value, definition and contrast.
- Through my painting, I am trying to evoke dark and mysterious emotions, alongside a sense of fun. I did that by using heavy hues of black and blue and setting it at night. I splattered bright colors to make it more appealing, interesting and fun.
