Movimientos Literarios y Artísticos
- During this project we analyzed art pieces and literature from different movements and then created artistic reactions. The art piece that I analyzed is form the Chicano movement and is a mural created by multiple artists in Chicano Park in San Diego. The analysis process included making general observations, identifying themes, mediums, and other important elements of the piece, and interpreting the meaning of the work. We then re-created the piece that we analyzed. I chose to use only select elements of the original mural. We then analyzed a piece of literature from our movement. I chose "Why am I so Brown" by Raquel Guerrero. During the literary analysis process we had to determine three defining characteristics of the piece, explain why the piece was a prime example of the movement, and then create an essay about the piece. We then created an art piece inspired by the literature piece. I chose to create a face with the Mexico flag painted on it to show the Mexican pride and empowerment that was evident during the Chicano movement.
- A challenge that I encountered with this project was the amount to time I had to work on my first art piece and the lack of experience I had in painting. I didn't realize how long it would take to paint my large canvas and worked on it for many more hours than I had expected. I would consider this project the first time I have painted an art piece. It was a learning experience and was a process of guess and check.
- If I had the opportunity to re-do this project, I would choose to spend more time on my second art piece. I feel like it has the potential to be much more dramatic and detailed. Overall, I really enjoyed this project and how we were able to incorporate art into Spanish.
